In just six weeks, earn your professional certificate, and benefit from an intensive summer learning experience that includes field trips, specialized workshops, and ArcGIS software training.

Our instructors are pioneers in the field of GIS, with a wealth of experience in government and private corporations. They provide the real-world expertise to bring you the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience to be recognized as a GIS professional in any industry.

This program is 15 units and can be completed in 6 weeks.

What You'll Learn

  • ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE solutions.
  • Managing a GIS data structure and design.
  • Analytical tools and methodologies.
  • Visualization using cartographic design and web services.
  • Practical implementation and project development.

What You Can Do

Positions are available in a variety of industries, and can be found in small firms or large corporations, government, or nonprofit organizations. They might include:

  • GIS Technician
  • GIS Analyst
  • GIS Coordinator or Manager
  • GIS Developer

Who Can Attend

Admission Requirements:

  • TOEFL score of 550 (80iBT) or IELTS score of 6.5.
  • Minimum age: 18 (or high school graduate).
  • No degree required.
  • This is a full-time program.
  • You must obtain F-1 (student) visa.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows.
  • Successful completion of one of the following:
    • Introduction to ArcGIS
    • Learning ArcGIS Desktop: A Self-paced Online Course
    • Equivalent courses from accredited college or university (official transcripts required)
    • Consent of program coordinator

Students are provided with all course materials, texts, parking, and a luncheon.

  • Esri User Conference in San Diego.
  • UCR Map Gallery.
  • Esri headquarters in Redlands.
Specialized workshops:
  • Spatial Analysis with geoprocessing tools.
  • Python Scripting.
  • Creating a Story Map.
  • Using GPS Data in a GIS.
  • GIS Career Workshop.
  • An ArcGIS 10.2 student license (provided upon arrival).
  • An external hard drive with pre-installed data sets, software and other resources.
Suggested Equipment

A laptop is not required, but if you bring your own, it must have minimum system requirements to run the ArcGIS software.
