UCR Admission Preparation Program (UCR-APP)

For students who meet the academic requirements for admission to UCR, but have not completed the SAT and/or TOEFL requirements prior to graduation, International Education Programs offers you the opportunity to gain admission to the University of California, Riverside. The UCR Admission Preparation Program (UCR-APP) provides you the skills you need to become a successful student at the University of California, Riverside.
Students who wish to apply for the UCR-APP must meet the Undergraduate admission Academic Requirements (below) and present a TOEFL 530 (or equivalent). Successful applicants will be offered conditional admission to UCR (the conditions the student must meet are to successfully achieve the SAT and/or TOEFL requirements by the end of the UCR-APP)
About the Program
University study is a challenge for every student, but especially for students who choose to study internationally and in their second language
APP focuses on instruction in university study skills, including academic reading, writing and research plus critical thinking. Highly experienced instructors prepare you for the challenges of academic work and life on a North American campus. The core courses include:

Undergraduate Admission Academic Requirements
To be considered for admission to the Riverside campus of the University of California, applicants must present the Senior High School Graduation Diploma and the Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary school records (grades 9 through 12). Records must indicate completion of the following subject areas in an academic, non-vocational, secondary program:
- History/Economics – one year of world history and one year of either U.S. History or the history of the country of instruction
- English or Language of instruction – 4 years required
- Mathematics – 3 years required, 4 years recommended
- Laboratory Science – 2 years required, 3 years preferred
- Foreign Language – 2 years required, 3 years recommended
- If the English or the “Language of Instruction” requirement above is met with the language of instruction, then this requirement must be met with the English language
- Visual and Performing Arts – 1 year required
- A minimum average of 85% with no grade lower than 84% in grades 10 and 11 is needed (3.4/4) for consideration
This program is for high school graduates only. Students who have any University courses are not eligible for this program
Scholarships
Scholarships of up to $5000 are awarded to the top academic students accepted into the UCR Admission Preparation Program.

1. Do I need to submit transcripts?
Yes, Grades 9, 10 11 and any Grade 12 marks and courses to date
2. Do I have to submit my Grade 9 courses and grades?
Yes, this will help you meet the A-G requirements for California undergraduate studies
3. Do I need to submit a personal statement?
Yes, this will help the UCR Admission team learn more about your goals and experiences. You can talk about things that are important to you – like your hobbies, participating in sports, performing in arts or anything that will give us more information about you.
4. Do I need to declare my major?
Yes, this will help us in planning for your future campus course selections.
5. After taking this program, am I guaranteed admission to UCR?
Yes, but you must complete all IEP and campus course requirements with a minimum grade and successfully meet the UCR TOEFL and SAT requirements in order to fully qualify as a UCR Freshman.
6. How do I apply for the Scholarship?
All students who apply and are accepted for this APP program will be reviewed for scholarships.
The estimated cost for the program is based upon course tuition, fees and other expeneses.
