Postgraduate Certificate (PGCM) in Management and Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or Hospitality (PGDHM)

Postgraduate Certificate (PGCM) or Diploma (PGDM) in Management

  • The Postgraduate Certificate Program in Management (PGCM) is a 12-week intensive program that introduces you to the exciting and vibrant business world through an interactive classroom  environment and a variety of practical site visits.

    • Ideal for students with a limited amount of time for study.

  • The Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a 9-month program comprised of three 12-week intensive sessions, including a required unpaid internship.
  • Offered four times a year: winter, spring, summer and fall.
  • No GMAT requirement.
  • No management experience required.
  • One-year paid Optional Practical Training (OPT).
  • Study with professionals from many countries.
  • Advanced level of English required (minimum of TOEFL 523 PBT, 69 iBT; IELTS 5.5; TOEIC 700).
  • For students who hold a bachelor’s degree in any academic area (or equivalent combination of academic and management experience).

About the Postgraduate Certificate in Management

The 12-week Postgraduate Certificate in Management examines five fundamentals of Business Management, including:

  • Global Human Resource Management
    • Includes topics relevant to human resources from both the theoretical and practical viewpoint. Participants learn: workplace trends – recruiting and training; strategic human resources; management techniques for organizational relationships; organizational behavior; dynamics of teams; employee benefits; risk; leadership; and labor and employee relations.
  • Global Marketing Management
    • Global Marketing requires unique thinking and strategies, those that acknowledge that the best products, ideas and people can come from anywhere in the world. Topics that address the development of a global approach to marketing include: global thinking in marketing; international entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship; global marketing mix; standardization vs. adaptation; pricing strategies; internet marketing and e-commerce; global supply chain management; marketing research; promotional strategies; and consumer behavior.
  • Multinational Financial Management
    • Concentrates on the issues particular to conducting business globally. Technique and theory are applied to a case study, carried through in each of the seminar sessions. Course begins with an overview and case introduction. Topics include: international multinational environment; growth in the world financial markets; emerging markets; courtly risk and international trade; comparative accounting systems; e-trading; currency trading; foreign exchange risk management; financial international agreements; and case summary solutions.
  • Managing Change and Technology
    • Addresses the issue of change on many levels: individual; organizational and technological. Rapid evolution of working environments calls for the development of new skills and understanding, to adapt and manage change effectively. Included are: management information systems; development of technology; strategies for success through innovation and change; changing and influencing behavior; managing stress; creative thinking; developing creativity and new ideas.
  • Strategic Management
    • Participants will engage in discussions and role-playing. Topics included: competitive advantage; customers and employees; global negotiations; going international; cross-cultural communication; strategies for high-growth business; bridging management and technology; and competitive advantage.

Don’t have time for the 12-week certificate? The certificate program is offered in a two-week format so students may take one or more of the five modules, in any order. See dates and fees.

About the Diploma Program

The University of California, Riverside Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a comprehensive business program that explores the issues of management in the global business environment in a variety of contexts. It combines academic study of the latest management practices and strategies, intensive practical experience and on-the-job work experience in three 12-week sessions.

Students in PGDM first complete the 12-week certificate program.

Participants have the opportunity to network with professionals from around the world and are provided maximum exposure to American business practices. Courses are taught by faculty and business professionals, giving real-world business practices and insight into the most current global business practices.

The program does not require any previous management experience and does not have a GMAT requirement.

Students who successfully complete the diploma program may be eligible to participate in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program that allows for 12 months of temporary paid employment in the United States.

About the Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Sessions I, II & III)

After completing the certificate, students can continue for two additional quarters of study. In the second quarter, students will identify their concentration of either Management or Hospitality Management and continue for an additional two quarters of study.

Management Concentration

For students who choose to major in Management, you can select up to 15 units per quarter, from a wide range of courses offered as part of the Extension Certificates in Management, including courses in:

  • Management
  • Non-Profit Management
  • Marketing
  • Leadership
  • Human Resource Management
  • Accounting
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Purchasing, Logistics and Supply Change Management
  • Project Management

 

Hospitality Management Concentration

Students who wish to concentrate in Hospitality will follow a set course format in the second quarter, including the following:

  • Introduction to North American Hospitality and Tourism Management
  • Customer Service Management
  • Corporate Communications

Choice of one of the following:

  • Consumer Behavior
  • Marketing Strategy and Implementation
  • Customer Relations Management
  • Advertising and Promotions Management
  • Organizational Behavior

INTERNSHIP

In the final quarter students participate in a 12-week supervised internship in the business or hospitality industries, allows this experience. Give a student  the opportunity to work in real-world settings. Internship are unpaid. Our internships coordinator will work with you to secure an internship.
