Syed Zafar Majid
|
International
trader Syed Zafar Majid was considering a career change
in the late 90s. The
native of Karachi, Pakistan, had been doing business
in Japan when a recession hit and put a damper on Syed’s
fortunes.
Syed learned about the Global
Business Management Program at UC
Riverside Extension in Riverside, California through
an advertisement published in Newsweek International.
He arrived in America on a student visa in November of
1999.
A
go-getter, Syed seized the opportunity to learn as
much as he could. From Global Business Management,
Syed
moved into International Education Program’s Design-Your-Own
Program. Within one year, Syed earned certificates in
Computer Applications Specialist and Dispute Resolution.
“I was very dedicated. I was here for study so
I thought I should really go for it,” said Majid,
who earned 29 credits in one quarter. Majid obtained an internship with the American insurance company, New York Life Insurance. There, he learned about the insurance and financial industry and became licensed to join American General Financial Services to work as financial representative.
This year, Majid, returned to the United States on a
work visa to work for Russon Financial Services.
“I
wanted to thank Dr. Sheila Dwight and International
Education Programs,” Majid said. “UCR has
been good to me. I have an attachment (to UCR) that has
helped me.”
We are thrilled that Majid has found fortune both at
home and in the United States and we wish him the best
of luck.
