UNIVERSITY – SPEECH CONTEST 2007 – UCR IEP SCHOLARSHIP FOR WINNER
International Education Programs at UCR awards an annual
scholarship for the winner of the Eastern
Hiroshima Prefectural High School English Speech
Contest sponsored by Fukuyama University.
This year Ms. Kyoko Takigawa from Fukuyama Akenohoshi Girls' High School won the UCR
scholarship. “This speech contest has become popular among the
neighboring high schools. The scholarship that UCR has kindly been offering
to the speech contest is an excellent prize that encourages high school
students to make efforts to brush up on English,” says Kenji Akasaki, Professor and Chairman, Committee for
International Exchange at Fukuyama University.
Staff and teachers at UCR IEP have always found the winners of this speech contest to be intelligent, motivated and
delightful representatives of the youth of Japan. Charlene Pratt, Interim Director of IEP states that “Students studying abroad must be flexible
and open to new ideas and cultures and, in our experience, winners of the Eastern
Hiroshima Prefectural High School English Speech
Contest are exactly that.” IEP looks
forward to welcoming Ms. Kyoko Takigawa to UCR
during the summer 2008.
