Enjoying Your Stay in Southern California
An important part of language learning and your experience in California is practicing your English outside the classroom. In the University of California, Riverside International Education Programs, we schedule dozens of social activities that allow you to get out of the classroom and into the real world. Students are encouraged to participate in these activities to make new friends, relax from their studies and learn more about American culture.

UCR Campus Cultural Activities
UC Riverside is has a wide variety of arts and cultural activities taking place across campus. From one-of-a-kind special collections to lecture series, from concerts, film festivals, dance performances and theatre to the tranquility of our Botanic Gardens, there is something here for everyone.

Sports
Whether you want to shoot a basket or strike a soccer ball, or would rather watch and root for the UCR Highlander athletics teams, we have something for everyone.
- UCR's sports facilities, include tennis courts, a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor volleyball courts, basketball courts, soccer fields and gymnasium, are available to students for a small fee (age restrictions apply).
- During the months of September through May, you can watch the UCR Highlander Intercollegiate Athletics teams take on some of the best college competition in the country. Outings to some UCR events are offered through the Office of Social and Cultural Activities.

Information on the ways you can get out and explore Southern California on your own, including renting a car, buses and trains, and shuttle and taxi companies.
Businesses Near UCR
The UCR Extension Center, International Residence Center and International Village are located in the thriving city of Riverside. The university area features over a dozen places to eat within a five minute walk. Other businesses nearby include banks, department stores, grocery stores and movie theaters.
