Academic-Year Certificate Programs

LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT

UCR Extension’s certificate will help you to earn a mark of professional distinction in the landscape, turfgrass or irrigation field. Learn the latest research findings and management practices for maintaining extensive landscapes. Gain knowledge of the technical aspects of turfgrass selection and maintenance including pest management, fertilization and irrigation. Explore the principles of budgeting, purchasing and other management functions basic to landscape managers. Our certificate program provides participants with the expertise of turfgrass, landscape and irrigation specialists and researchers from within the University and the industry.

Academic-Yer Certificate Programs

CURRICULUM – 3 Quarter Sessions

Fall Quarter (September-December)
Required Courses:
•  Principles of Plant Growth
•  Management Skills for Turfgrass and Landscape Managers

Electives (select two):
•  Introduction to Landscape Irrigation
•  Soil-Water-Plant Relationships

Winter Quarter (January-April)
Required Courses:
•  Soil Fertility and Fertilizers
•  Turfgrass Pests

Electives (select two):
•  Landscape Sprinkler System Design and Installation
•  Scheduling Landscape Irrigation Applications
•  Landscape Design

Spring Quarter (April-June)
Required Courses:
•  Foundations of Turfgrass Management
•  Turfgrass Irrigation and Drainage

Electives (select two):
•  Maintenance, Adjustment and Repair of Irrigation Systems
•  Computers and Irrigation
•  Drip Irrigation in the Landscape
•  Diseases of Ornamental Plants

Landscape Management

Length:  36-week. 3 x 12-week session.
Days per week: 5
Average class size: 14
When is it offered? September to June
Required proficiency: minimum TOEFL® score of 523 (paper)/193 (computer), TOEIC® score of 700 or above, TSE® score of 45 or above and be at the 600 level of UC Riverside Extension’s Intensive English Program or equivalent.
Minimum Age:  15
Tuition
The tuition for the entire 36-week (about nine months) program is (please see Schedule & Fees page) .
Application Deadline
Application deadline is one month before the starting date of the program.
Optional Practical Training
Upon completion of an Academic-year Certificate Program, you may be eligible for up to a year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) at an American company.
