Academic-Year Certificate Programs

FORENSIC INVESTIGATION AND CRIME ANALYSIS

This certificate examines the fundamental principles for criminal intelligence gathering and crime analysis techniques for investigating a crime scene and preserving evidence. Participants practice commonly used methodologies and techniques through extensive hands-on activities in the field and computer lab. Prior law enforcement education or experience is not required. Our curriculum is taught by internationally recognized experts and is recognized by local and state law enforcement agencies.

Academic-Yer Certificate Programs

CURRICULUM – 3 Quarter Sessions

Fall Quarter (September-December)
Required Courses:
•  Crime Scene Management
•  Criminal Investigative Analysis
•  Computer Skills for the Crime Analyst

Electives (select two):
•  Blood Stain Pattern Analysis
•  GIS in Crime Analysis
•  Forensic Handwriting Analysis
•  Organizational Behavior

Winter Quarter (January-April)
Required Courses:
•  Crime Scene Photography
•  Introduction to Criminal Intelligence
•  Crime Analysis Applications

Electives (select two):
•  Autopsy: Medicolegal Investigation
•  Forensic Digital Imaging
•  Mapping With Crash-Zone/
Crime-Zone
•  Introduction to Population Genetics: DNA Analysis
•  Business Writing

Spring Quarter (April-June)
Required Courses:
•  Fingerprint Techniques and Impression Evidence
•  Survey of Criminalistics
•  Research Methods and Statistics in Crime Analysis
Electives (select two):
•  Blood Stain Pattern Analysis
•  Examination of Questioned Documents
•  Field Methods of Forensic Anthropology
•  Forensic Entomology
Forensic Investigation and Crime Analysis

Length:  36-week. 3 x 12-week session.
Days per week: 5
Average class size: 14
When is it offered? September to June
Required proficiency: minimum TOEFL® score of 523 (paper)/193 (computer), TOEIC® score of 700 or above, TSE® score of 45 or above and be at the 600 level of UC Riverside Extension’s Intensive English Program or equivalent.
Minimum Age:  15
Tuition
The tuition for the entire 36-week (about nine months) program is (please see Schedule & Fees page) .
Application Deadline
Application deadline is one month before the starting date of the program.
Optional Practical Training
Upon completion of an Academic-year Certificate Program, you may be eligible for up to a year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) at an American company.
