Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program (IEP) at University of California, Riverside is the largest premiere English-language learning program for international students in California. More than 50,000 students from over 100 different countries have traveled to Riverside, California since 1975 to spend from 4-weeks to 1-year at IEP learning English and enhancing their business and professional skills. While students take classes with our top-rate instructors, they also spend their free time in Southern California immersing themselves in American culture and visiting California’s famed destination spots.

IEP at University of California, Riverside understands the needs of the international traveler. Our students are thrilled that most services they need for a productive and happy study trip abroad are provided here at UCR. IEP provides student housing, health insurance, immigration assistance and planned leisure trips throughout Southern California. Students who choose to stay with a host American family also have access to transportation. All of this assistance is provided with warmth and friendliness. Intensive English Program- English as a Second Language (ESL) and Professional Programs

Professional and Experienced Teaching Staff
IEP teachers are competent, friendly and dedicated professionals. They have extensive experience in teaching international students, and many of them have lived abroad. They understand different cultures and create an atmosphere in which you learn quickly and comfortably.

Year-Round Programs
Our programs are offered on a year-round basis, so you may choose to begin your studies when it is most convenient for you. The duration varies from two weeks to one year in our regularly scheduled programs. Special programs may be arranged for any length of time for groups with particular interests or time restraints.

Certificate
International Education Program certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a program. In addition, transcripts recording academic credit are available for students at the 500/600 levels in the Intensive English Program.

Convenient Modern Facility
IEP's new facilities in the UCR Extension Center offer comfortable air-conditioned classrooms, a large language laboratory, seven computer (Macintosh and IBM) laboratories, two student lounges, conference rooms, an ESL library, a bookstore, food services, and International Residence Center.

Exam Preparation Classes
If you plan to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), TOEIC, GRE or GMAT, you may take an extra class (at an added fee) developed specifically to help you improve your scores. The institutional TOEFL and the TOEIC are offered twice each quarter.

Campus Classes with American Students
Students in the advanced levels of the Intensive English Program, English for International Business, Improving Oral Fluency or University Preparation Program may take UC Riverside and Extension classes in any field such as business, computers, agriculture and arts. (Fall, winter and spring quarters only.)
