English Programs in California

There are many English programs in California to choose from. If you are planning to learn English in America, we hope that you will consider our programs at the University of California, Riverside. Since 1975 we have been offering high-quality English language programs. We have several programs to choose from: Intensive English Program, English for International Business, Improving Oral Fluency, Conversation and American Culture and University Preparation Program. Our programs offer a full range of choices for individuals who wish to improve their English.
 
Our intensive English program is designed for students who want to study in California at a college or university, or for professionals or individuals who want to improve their English ability. Our University Preparation Program is designed for international students who already have a high level of English and have a definite plan to enroll in a college or university in America. In English for International Business, participants learn basic American business practices and acquire English language skills for use in an academic or professional setting. Those with advanced English skills who want to study in an English program in America to improve their speaking ability can enroll in our Improving Oral Fluency program. Those looking for a less academic English program in America should consider our Conversation and American Culture program, which is a short term program that combines studying English with trips to popular sites in Southern California.

Professional and Experienced Teaching Staff
IEP teachers are competent, friendly and dedicated professionals. They have extensive experience in teaching international students, and many of them have lived abroad. They understand different cultures and create an atmosphere in which you learn quickly and comfortably.

Year-Round Programs
Our programs are offered on a year-round basis, so you may choose to begin your studies when it is most convenient for you. The duration varies from two weeks to one year in our regularly scheduled programs. Special programs may be arranged for any length of time for groups with particular interests or time restraints.

Certificate
A University of California Extension certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a program. In addition, transcripts recording academic credit are available for students at the 500/600 levels in the Intensive English Program.

Convenient Modern Facility
IEP's new facilities in the UCR Extension Center offer comfortable air-conditioned classrooms, a large language laboratory, seven computer (Macintosh and IBM) laboratories, two student lounges, conference rooms, an ESL library, a bookstore, food services, and International Residence Center.

Exam Preparation Classes
If you plan to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), TOEIC, GRE or GMAT, you may take an extra class (at an added fee) developed specifically to help you improve your scores. The institutional TOEFL and the TOEIC are offered twice each quarter.

Campus Classes with American Students
Students in the advanced levels of the Intensive English Program, English for International Business, Improving Oral Fluency or University Preparation Program may take UC Riverside and Extension classes in any field such as business, computers, agriculture and arts. (Fall, winter and spring quarters only.)
