Learning English can be a fun and rewarding experience. At the University of California, Riverside, we pride ourselves in offering one of the best ESL programs in the United States. Our Intensive English Program has six levels, beginning to advanced. Our programs are offered year round in 10-week, 6-week and 4-week sessions. Students attend 24 hours of English classes per week.  Students learning English at UCR can be assured they will receive quality English language training from qualified teachers.  

We understand that for international students, learning English can be the key to success in an American college or university. Our intensive program will help you to improve your English language skills in the shortest amount of time possible so that you can begin pursuing your academic goals.  In our intensive program, you will be learning English grammar, reading, writing and speaking. Our intensive program ensures that you learn English comprehensively.

Certificate
A University of California Extension certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a program. In addition, transcripts recording academic credit are available for students at the 500/600 levels in the Intensive English Program.

Professional and Experienced Teaching Staff
IEP teachers are competent, friendly and dedicated professionals. They have extensive experience in teaching international students, and many of them have lived abroad. They understand different cultures and create an atmosphere in which you learn quickly and comfortably.

Year-Round Programs
Our programs are offered on a year-round basis, so you may choose to begin your studies when it is most convenient for you. The duration varies from two weeks to one year in our regularly scheduled programs. Special programs may be arranged for any length of time for groups with particular interests or time restraints.

Convenient Modern Facility
IEP's new facilities in the UCR Extension Center offer comfortable air-conditioned classrooms, a large language laboratory, seven computer (Macintosh and IBM) laboratories, two student lounges, conference rooms, an ESL library, a bookstore, food services, and International Residence Center.

Exam Preparation Classes
If you plan to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), TOEIC, GRE or GMAT, you may take an extra class (at an added fee) developed specifically to help you improve your scores. The institutional TOEFL and the TOEIC are offered twice each quarter.

Campus Classes with American Students
Students in the advanced levels of the Intensive English Program, English for International Business, Improving Oral Fluency or University Preparation Program may take UC Riverside and Extension classes in any field such as business, computers, agriculture and arts. (Fall, winter and spring quarters only.)
