International Education English language program at University of California offers classes in conversation English to international students interested in immersing themselves in American culture while honing their English-speaking skills. Students who do not have a lot of time to travel can take advantage of IEP’s 3-week Conversation and American Culture Program. Students spend 15 hours each week learning about American idioms, American culture and the functions of American English. They hone their listening and speaking skills by using the Computer Assisted Language Learning in IEP’s computer lab and participating in our Conversation Partners Program, where they are introduced to American students who help them practice. We also offer a Nursing Review Program for foreign nurses willing to work in USA.
IEP at University of California, Riverside is located in Riverside California, just a couple of hours away from the beaches, mountains and deserts of Southern California. Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County are about 90 minutes from the campus. IEP at University of California, Riverside also arranges day and weekend trips for our international students to famous destinations such as Disneyland, Hollywood and San Diego’s SeaWorld. In addition, IEP also provides housing for our short-term students. Housing arrangements include the options of staying with a host American family or living on campus in one of IEP’s residential dorms or apartments.
Many international students want to improve their conversation English.
Two of our programs are specifically designed to help students improve their
conversational skills in English. The Conversation and American Culture
program is ideal for those who would like to study English in the United
States, but who have limited time. The program is three weeks long. Students
have classes 15 hours each week, plus an additional five hours of language
lab. There is no minimum language requirement for this program, and
students may come on a visitor visa.
Our Improving Oral Fluency (IOF) program is another program designed
specifically for students who want to improve their speaking skills. This
program is an intensive program and students must already be at the advanced
level to join. Students study 24 hours per week and take classes in: oral
skills development, pronunciation, and grammar for oral fluency. Students in
the IOF program also choose one elective class. Choices include: American
idioms, advanced vocabulary, public speaking and GRE/GMT preparation. Both
of these programs are excellent choices for English students
