American Family Housing

|
Living in American family housing is one of the best ways to rapidly improve one’s English while studying in the United States. At University of California, Riverside, International Education Programs (IEP) offers international students the opportunity to live with an American host family. While students participate in IEP programs, like the Intensive English Program, Global Business Management, the TESOL certificate program or Conversation and American Culture, they live with an American family. The host family provides students with meals, transportation and the comfort and security of staying with a family, who will ensure that student's welfare. Host families are handpicked by UC Riverside because of the family’s desire to provide a nurturing environment for the international student.
IEP students can practice listening to and speaking English as they interact with host family members and learn about American culture. IEP’s host parents are known for their hospitality, generosity and willingness to assist international students in adapting to life in a foreign country. Host families invite their international students to family gatherings and outings like birthdays, weddings and American holiday affairs. Because IEP students, who live with host families, are surrounded by English speakers in school and at home, they are able to practice the English that they learn in class in the real world. Many international students develop lifelong friendships with their American families as a result of their experience. IEP also offers other living arrangements including on-campus dormitories and apartments.
